We recently coordinated the sea freight shipment of oversized project cargo from China to the United Kingdom for a long-standing customer based in Newcastle. The project required careful planning, specialist equipment, and close coordination across multiple stages of the supply chain.
Oversized freight presents unique logistical considerations, from container selection to safe handling at both origin and destination. Our team worked closely with partners overseas and in the UK to ensure the cargo moved efficiently and with full visibility for the client throughout the process.
The Challenge
The cargo required transport on a 40ft flat rack container, a specialist piece of equipment used for large or irregular freight that cannot fit within a standard container. Securing the correct equipment and vessel space was essential to keep the project on schedule.
Due to the dimensions of the cargo, there were also potential complications with loading, securing, and unloading the goods. The shipment required careful planning with the supplier and our trusted partner in China to ensure the cargo was properly positioned and secured for its ocean journey.
On arrival in the UK, the cargo dimensions meant it could not simply leave the port inside the container. Additional arrangements were required to unload the freight safely and transfer it onto a low-loader trailer for onward delivery. Road transport considerations, including potential escort requirements due to size restrictions, also needed to be assessed in advance.
The Solution
Our team organised the delivery of the flat rack container to the supplier’s premises in China and secured vessel space with the shipping line at the earliest opportunity to guarantee the fastest available sailing.
Working closely with our partner network at origin, the cargo was loaded and secured carefully to meet safety and shipping requirements for oversized freight. Once the shipment arrived in the UK, our team coordinated the unloading of the cargo at the port and arranged onward transport using a low-loader trailer suitable for the cargo’s dimensions.
Throughout the process, the customer received regular updates from our team via phone and email, providing full transparency and reassurance at every stage of the shipment.
The Result
The cargo was successfully transported from China to the UK and delivered safely to its final destination. Despite the complexity of the shipment, the process ran smoothly thanks to detailed planning, strong international coordination, and proactive communication with the client.
The customer was particularly pleased with the level of support provided from the quotation stage through to final delivery, highlighting the clear communication and consistent updates received throughout the project.
